Welcome to Ian's Trans-Alpine Triathlon!
At the beginning of July, Ian set off on a 2,000 mile triathlon across the Alps, from the French Riviera to Slovenia to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
He is using no motorised transport - just swimming (but not much), biking and running, crossing the highest passes in the process. There are twelve passes over 2, 500 metres (c.8, 200 feet)high and the route will take them all in.
Sir Ranulph Fiennes has sent a message of support to them:
"Marie Curie Cancer Care provides nursing care to cancer patients around the country making life more comfortable for patients in their last days and providing valuable support for their families. Please support Ian in his ambitious attempt to traverse the Alps from end to end in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care. To cover over 2,000 miles, taking in the very highest roads of the Alps, without using mechanical transport, is a considerable challenge and I send him and Judith my best wishes for a successful undertaking."
Ian's wife Judith, and Rosie (a black labrador), comprise the support crew. If he behaves, Judith will allow Ian to sleep in the camper van they have bought for the trip. Friends will join them for various stages of the route.
Every penny raised will go towards Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Ian and Judith hope to be back at the end of August. You will be able to follow their progress in the meantime on this website.
